- The war next to our door - Our pain and suffering of being in conflict
Beschreibung
As human beings, and as psychotherapists who value empathy, compassion, and the promotion of humanistic change, we are enormously challenged when we come face to face with senseless violence and wars, and the hate that fuels them. Though we are unique, we share some deep universal responses like fear, outrage, powerlessness, grief, and more.
What can we draw on from our person centered theory and practice to be of real help to us?
My short answer is we have a lot, but we'll cover as much as we can.
Our time together will include the following:
-
Some introductory remarks about our pertinent theory and practice, drawn from my work at the intersection of the person centered approach and social engagement.
-
Viewing selected video clips exploring the experience of hate both what it does to us and for us, and what it means to get "Beyond Hate". Masterful journalist, Bill Moyers interviews Noble Peace Prize winners and others whose lives were damaged by targeted hatred.
-
Discussion at multiple points along our exploration.
The format will be guided by the needs and preferences of the group as we meet, and the reality of living with the war next to our door. The Workshop will be held in English.
